Symphony Designer Showhouse
March 13, 2024 to April 13, 2024
2024 Symphony Designer Showhouse After a 4-year absence, join us for the 44th Symphony Designer Showhouse, a CSOL tradition to benefit the Charleston Symphony and CSOL Music Scholarships.  The CSOL is thrilled to showcase the restoration and re-imagination of the circa 1803 John Rudolph Spitzer House featuring the work of 16 interior designers, home tours, special events and SCORE, the CSOL’s curated pop-up shop. House Tour and SCORE Pop-Up Shop:  Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  About 6 Montagu 6 Montagu is considered a legacy project by the homeowner who has renovated a number of homes in the neighborhood. The circa 1803 home is being converted from its most recent configuration of 6 apartments to a reimagined single-family home. The vision combines an extensive historic renovation of the front of the original house with an artistically designed 3-story addition in the back. The renovation includes newly landscaped front and rear gardens including a pool.    The house was built by John Rudolph Switzer, a saddler whose business was on nearby King Street. The 2 ½ story house features a 2-story piazza over an arched brick foundation. According to the Charleston Historic Foundation, the first floor of the piazza is original, while the second-floor piazza was added later. A notable feature of the house is the doorway in the Neoclassical-style with fan light that serves as the main entrance to the house.     Other owners of the house include Keating Simons Laurens, grandson of United States Founding Father Henry Laurens and Mr. and Mrs. George A.Z. Johnson who restored the house in the 1960’s.     The CSOL is grateful to Mary Whyte for the stunning watercolor rendition of the entrance to the house which serves as the focal point of our communications.     While visiting 6 Montagu, be sure to shop in SCORE, the CSOL’s exclusive pop-up shop. In addition, treasures from our designers’ exquisitely decorated rooms are available in the Designer Sales Office.     This much-awaited 44th Symphony Designer Showhouse is a not-to-be-missed event!
