Should we stay in Charleston or Mt. Pleasant?
Enjoy A Top Rated Charleston Vacation
When planning a Charleston vacation, many families find that staying in Mount Pleasant offers the perfect balance of convenience, comfort, and value. While downtown Charleston places visitors in the heart of the city's historic district, Mount Pleasant provides more space to relax, easier parking, and quick access to Charleston's top attractions, beaches, and waterfront activities. Guests at The Cottages on Charleston Harbor enjoy the best of both worlds—peaceful harborfront accommodations just minutes from downtown Charleston via car or water taxi.

Is Charleston walkable?
Explore Coastal Carolina by Foot.
Yes, much of historic Charleston is very walkable. Visitors can easily explore popular attractions such as Rainbow Row, The Battery, Waterfront Park, King Street shopping, and many of the city's restaurants and historic sites on foot. However, attractions outside the historic district—including beaches, plantations, and Mount Pleasant destinations—typically require a car, rideshare, or water taxi to reach.
Many guests at The Cottages on Charleston Harbor choose the convenient Charleston Water Taxi to explore downtown Charleston without the hassle of traffic or parking. The scenic ride across the harbor is a favorite family activity, offering beautiful views of the Charleston skyline, historic landmarks, and occasional dolphin sightings along the way.

Are Charleston beaches family friendly?

Depending on whether you are traveling with toddlers who need calm water and convenient restrooms, or teenagers looking for surf lessons and boardwalk snacks, one beach will likely stand out as the perfect fit.
